Detailed reading about these experiments is found in this article after the AI Art Generation experiments.
UnBundled Moebius: Experiment 1:
I will be using a local installation of Stable Diffusion on my own PC with windows 10, Python 3.9. Data Models & Specifics will be included in each AI Text Prompt.
I want to generate new art for a potential animation and the following AI Text Prompts will reflect my goal. A good start is the simple <Art Medium> of <Subject>, which will convert to <Storyboard Art> of <Non-Binary Alien Protagonist>.
Next, let’s build on our previous simple prompt as follows: <Art Medium> of <Subject>, <Verb>, <Location>,<Emotion>, <Technique 1>,<Technique 2>, <Style>, <Equipment>,<Lighting>,<Render Quality> .
Next. let’s plug in our own ideas to the previous prompt so it can become something like this: <Storyboard Art> of <Non-Binary Alien Protagonist>, <floating>, <outside internet cafe>, <very serious>, <line work>,<watercolor>,<fantasy>,<color pencil>,<up lighting><photoreal>.
Next, we have a draft ai text prompt: Storyboard illustration art of non-binary alien protagonist, floating outside an internet cafe, very serious, line work, watercolor, fantasy, color pencil, up lighting, photoreal.
Next, we can review our previous research table of adjectives, styles, mediums for Moebius and fine tune our prompt to become something like this: Storyboard illustration art of non-binary alien protagonist, floating outside an internet cafe, surreal, transcend 1960s and 2000s eras, line work, watercolor, fantasy, color pencil, suggest movement, up lighting, high definition, high quality, photo-realistic, ultra realistic, hyper-realistic, 8k
Next, we work on fine tuning our draft ai text prompt with Stable Diffusion DPM Fast until we see results that are similar to what we want in terms of subject, medium, format, etc. You can learn how and why I start with DPM Fast Sampling Method when I’m fine tuning my AI Text Prompts at this previous blog post: https://aigeneration.blog/2023/02/06/stable-diffusion-sampling-methods/ .
The following images are the raw unedited output from my local Stable Diffusion python scripts that I run on my PC with windows operating system. I do not claim copyright ownership over raw unedited ai generated images (common sense). My own copyright art is not on this website and draws inspiration from and references the natural world, artificial intelligence, technologies, imagination, my own life experiences and the many artists that are featured on this website as well as the many talented artists in the communities that I participate in. I encourage everyone to figure out how to share their own stories and views while being respectful of all that inspires you without resorting to cheap clones that erase & replace whoever and whatever inspires you to be and do your best.
I (MoniGarr) can also be hired as a technical consultant to teach you all of this, how to install and run on your own pc to individuals and groups online and in person.

I can see where the AI results are following my prompt, so I am going to drastically change my prompt to bring this to the results I am wanting. I think the ’movement’ is too strong and messes with the intricate sharp clean lines that I admire Moebius’s art for. |
![]() AI Text Prompt: digital illustration of a man, intricate clean line art, color pencil, fantasy, back to the viewer, gazing at distant stars, stark contrast, barren, detailed, dreamlike, science fiction, comic, cartoon, vivid color, clean linework, acrylic paint. Generation Settings: Stable Diffusion Checkpoint: Inkpunk-Diffusion-v2 Sampling Method: DPM Fast Sampling Steps: 20 Width / Height: 512 CFG Scale: 7 Seed -1 MoniGarr’s Opinion: This is closer to what I want to produce but it’s not what I want yet. I did more research (shallow to start with) on the colors and color palettes that Moebius used so that I can fine tune my prompt. I might have to find out exactly what color pencils & watercolor brands and colors he used to get the results that I want. |

Generation Settings: Stable Diffusion Checkpoint: robo-diffusion-v1 Sampling Method: DPM Fast Sampling Steps: 20 Width / Height: 512 CFG Scale: 7 Seed -1 MoniGarr’s Opinion: I like this one alot. I was not thinking of this color palette, but it’s nice. I like how the robo-diffusion checkpoint creates andromorphic characters. The background texture and photo composition is nice to my eyes too. This text prompt and robo-diffusion-v1 checkpoint might be a decent starting point. I will use a similar text prompt to this with various sampling methods to get the clean intricate lines and colors that I admire in Moebius’s work. |

Generation Settings: Stable Diffusion Checkpoint: robo-diffusion-v1 Sampling Method: DPM Adaptive Sampling Steps: 20 Width / Height: 512 CFG Scale: 7 Seed -1 MoniGarr’s Opinion: I like the clean linework and color palette on this one. I also appreciate that it’s inspired by and not a clone of the fabulous artist Moebius. I refer to my previous experiments with Sampling Methods to decide which sampling methods will have a higher chance of producing the results I prefer in regards to sharp clean lines and color pencil visuals. It looks like the following will be suitable for my fine tuning and most likely will become the final AI Text Prompts: Euler, LMS, Heun, PLMS and their newer variations. |

It’s nice, I think I would frame this actually. Perhaps it does deserve some attention as the inspiration for new 3D animation projects? |

I think Moebius art and those that inspired his art can be found in the Sampling Methods of Euler, LMS, Heun, PLMS and their newest variations with properly researched and fine tuned ai text prompts. |
Moebius is the pseudonym used by the artist Jean Giraud (1938 – 2012) born in the al-de-Marne region of France. Moebius started using the pseudonym in 1975 as an inspiration from the German astronomer that created the ring in the form of infinity.
This post, akin to past entries discussing Text Prompt Tips and Unbundled Artist , delves into Moebius’ techniques, materials, and style. It encourages readers to craft personalized AI Text Prompts, steering away from the mundane practice of inserting a favorite artist’s name. Such insertion leads to a mere replication of mainstream trends, erasing the original artist’s identity from the internet. Instead, the post advocates for Unbundling techniques to design unique AI Text Prompts, infusing one’s creativity into the results. The documentary “Jodorowsky’s Dune” provides additional insights into Moebius’ art.
As a longtime admirer of Moebius and his influencers, I’ve explored artists and their methods without a formal art education. My learning journey involves delving into my interests using the internet, public libraries, search engines, and artificial intelligence. I stress the importance of respectful and supportive use of AI tools, hoping my blog posts on experiments inspire others to utilize AI without erasing their inspirations. UnBundled Artist techniques offer a superior alternative, guiding individuals on a personal journey to understand and appreciate their favorite artists’ productions.
I hope the detailed experiments I share on this blog will help you to produce your own unique visual arts and practice that you can be proud of and find joy in. Art is such a wonderful way to connect with ourselves, humanity and yes even All of Creation, when we learn & remember to use our tools to respect, support and acknowledge those that inspire and support us. Please stop inserting your favorite artist names and art pieces into your AI text prompts, it’s an act of ultimate colonization – instant fast complete erasure of your favorite artists so that the internet and all data sources will only find cheap ai clones anytime a search is conducted to find the original artists’ works. We can do better, so let’s be better together with respectful collaborations with AI (Onkwehonwehneha AI – ancient intelligence collaborating with artificial intelligence).
Moebius Influences & Style:
Moebius style is also referred to as “Ligne claire” or “clear line” and it was most popularized by another artist known as Hergé who created “The Adventures of Tin Tin”. Hergé was also inspired by Moebius who was known for using the color palette and mark making technique.
Moebius was inspired by the following artists and many of them are influenced by Moebius:
- Hayao Miyazaki, 1941 – . Japanese animator, filmmaker, manga artist, co-founder of Studio Ghibli. One of most accomplished filmmakers in history of animation.
- Joseph Gillain / Jijé, 1914 – 1980. Mentor to Moebius in his early years. Belgian comics artist, writer. Spirou et Fantasio strip, Jerry Spring, Blueberry.
- Virgil Finlay, 1914 – 1971. Pen & Ink Rendering. American illustrator, pulp fantasy, science fiction, horror.
- Katsuhiro Otomo, 1954 – . Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, animator, film director. Akira manga series and animated film.
- Hergé, 1907 – 1983. Belgian comic strip artist. The Adventures of Tintin.
- Alex Raymond, 1909 – 1956. American cartoonist, illustrator. The Flash.
- Robert Crumb, 1943 – . American cartoonist.
- Goscinny, 1926 – 1977. French comic editor, writer. Astérix comic book series.
- Will Eisner, 1917 – 2005. American cartoonist, writer, entrepreneur.
- Gustave Doré, 1832 – 1883. French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, sculptor. Wood Engravings for the Vulgate Bible and Dante’s Divine Comedy.
- Guy Billout, 1941 – , French artist, author, illustrator of children’s books, editorial & corporate illustration.
- Winsor McCay, 1869 – 1934. American cartoonist and animator. Little Nemo in Slumberland comic strip.
BBC Documentary: In Search of Moebius is another great resource for learning more about the artist and finding out what and why you appreciate the art he produced.
Moebius influences new works long after his death: No Man’s Sky, Gravity Rush, Fire up Sable and Cyberpunk.
Moebius Artworks:
Moebius is most known for his Science Fiction & Fantasy work and comics. He contributed storyboards and art concepts for Tron, Alien, The Fifth Element, The Abyss and Blueberry. Blueberry was adapted for the screen in 2004 by French Director Jan Kounen.
- Alien, Arzach, Blueberry, Doctor Moebius and Mister Gir, Hara Kiri, Halo, Le Garage Hermétique, Möbius’ The Long Tomorrow, Panzer Dragoon, The Abyss, The Airtight Garage, The Fifth Element, The Incal, Tron, Willow
Moebius Mediums:
Moebius painted with most mediums: pen and ink, watercolor, colored inks, acrylic, oil, gouache and more. He carried a small sketchbook, pen and portable watercolor kit to do scenes that he saw in his travels. His later work was often done on a Wacom Cintiq with graphic design software.
Moebius Techniques:
These are some of my notes about how Moebius himself described his art and how various fans & critiques have described his art. This will assist me with designing new AI Text Prompts that will not place the artists’ names into the text prompts so that I can use my own ideas to design something new but still inspired by specific artists’ work in regards to techniques, mediums, influences, equipment, etc.
- Ligne Claire or Clean Line technique has clear strong outlines without hatching.
- Let lines shed their tonal and volumetric function and work with more calligraphic, patterned manner weaving them in and out of more tonal hatching / crosshatching.
- Extremely imaginative worlds that explore surrealism and surprises audiences with philosophical questions and the artist removed himself from established norms of Hamlet type protagonists instead of John Wayne type of heroes of his era.
- Science fiction with fantasy leading to surreal, psychedelic and surreal scenes. Moebius stated as an artist “Deep down I was in turmoil, I felt different (from other French comic artists). My mind was teeming with bizarre science fiction, avant-garde ideas, surrealism, sexuality… Totally transgressive”.
- Art that engaged with unexplored subject matter in the art mediums, but was dominant in the intellectual avant-garde that Moebius came from. He stated “(I had) a lifelong interest in the world of the unconscious, and the parallel universe of dreams. It became the impetus for my work”.
- Bizarre spiritual journeys with technopriests, underground rat army, mutant jellyfish, gurus floating on crystals with paneling, layout, comic book techniques.
- Listen to your unconscious when producing art of any kind: visual, text, audio. Moebius “I create forms and ideas, but I’m not responsible for them” “I only channel them. I put myself into a trance-like state in which something takes hold. That something might be from beyond consciousness, or from the gods, from some genies or I don’t know what. Anything is possible”.
- Pleasure and Emotion to expand our creative universe.
- Explain stories with your art.
- Expand your consciousness by entering others: use others experiences to expand your own and vice versa.
- Draw from Life – do not just copy.
- Draw from Photos – do not depend on them.
- Do not neglect digital tools.
- How to draw like Moebius, a deep dive into 3 of his most extreme styles
Moebius Text Prompt Tips:
I created the following based on what we learned about Moebius’s influences, techniques, equipment, world views, mediums and more. The following list will help you and I design our own custom AI Text Prompts to produce new AI Art Generations that respect the original human artists while providing us with unique results that should be much nicer than what mainstream regurgitated cheap clones are producing at this time. I also asked ChatGPT 3.5 to help me create these lists. My older blog post Text Prompt Tips: diy will also be useful for the upcoming experiments inspired by Moebius.
